The Ibis Tarot has stylized ancient Egyptian figures and hieroglyphs in rather pretty scenes. I like the colors used for each card in this deck. The profound secrets of ancient Egypt are united in the Ibis Tarot. An ancient Tarot wisdom is being saved from oblivion to sparkle in its original splendor. The 78-card Ibis Tarot, published in 1991 by A.G. Müller, represents an Egyptian Tarot pattern first illustrated by M.O. Wegener in 1896. |
EGYPTIAN TAROT
The profound secrets of ancient Egypt are united in the Ibis Tarot. A fantastic Tarot wisdom is being saved from oblivion to sparkle in its original splendor. The 78-card Ibis Tarot, published in 1991 by A.G. Müller, represents an Egyptian Tarot pattern first illustrated by M.O. Wegener in 1896. The coloring of the deck makes it one of the more attractive versions of this pattern. It is also one of the most faithful, Josef Machynka actually based his cards on designs found in a 1901 book titled Practical Astrology. The name Ibis refers to the bird associated with the Egyptian god Thoth, who instructed mankind in the sacred arts of language and hieroglyphics. It is Thoth, therefore, who is sometimes called the author of the Book of Tarot. The ibis bird can be seen on the side of the Magician's table, symbolizing the divine power worshiped by the Magician Ancient Egyptian Taro design, with Egyptian figures and symbols appear on the Major Arcana cards in this deck..
Where did Tarot Cards Come from? Is it Originated in Egypt ......Do you know?
The history of the tarot as mysterious as the tarot itself. Some believes tarot comes from Egypt or the idea of tarot originated from Egypt.
It's said, tarot as we know it today developed from an Egyptian card game that emigrated to Italy, and was transformed with different rules and other cards. In fact, many people still play these games and have nothing to do with divination. It is possible that the Egyptian game developed from something even further back, such as Babylonia, but the archaeological evidence is tenuous at best. Tarot is one of the oldest divination arts - almost as old as the history of humankind. In ancient Egypt, the Book of Thoth originated - the first known use of the Tarot deck. Tarot diagrams have been found in various chambers of Egyptian tombs, Pyramids, and initiation chambers. Kabbalistic studies, initiated in Ancient Hebrew societies, incorporated the study of Tarot into all of the training of initiates and adepts. Some metaphysical scholars have even traced the use of the Tarot back to Atlantean and Lemurian times. For instance, Hermetic tradition dates the Tarot cards back 35,000 years!
The other theory is that tarot is Gypsy in origin: "Current Historical Understanding: Originated in Bharat, aka India, thousands of years ago. The Roma, aka Gypsy, people brought it to the West around 1000 CE. Three excerpts are offered: Excerpt 1 "Preface to TZIGANE TAROT (Tarot of the Roms) By Tchalai "[...] We Roms possess Tarots which have come to us from the 'Chaturangas' that our ancestors the Rajput Princes had painted on round pieces of mother-of-pearl or leather. We draw them for one another following our elaborate and familiar laws which make life so livable".http://www.romani.org/rtchalai.html
